Abstract
Antiobesity effects of bamboo salt (BS) were evaluated compared with those of purified salt and solar salt by oral administration in a diet-induced obesity model using C57BL/6 mice. Compared with other salts, BS, especially nine times baked BS (BS-9¡¿), significantly reduced body weight, food efficiency ratio, and weights of epididymal adipose tissue and liver in high-fat diet?fed mice. Furthermore, BS suppressed the expression of adipogenic factors, such as CCAAT/enhancer binding protein alpha (C/EBP¥á), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR¥ã), and sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1c (SREBP-1c). Therefore, BS may suppress obesity by downregulating adipogenesis.
